Sara Serkez, LAC

Sara Serkez is a licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) who earned her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Fairleigh Dickinson University and her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Montclair State University. She has worked in several capacities in the mental health field, in both paid and volunteer positions, and has experience working with young adults and adults, as well as couples, families, and groups in a variety of settings. Sara has experience working with clients dealing with depression and anxiety disorders, trauma and post-traumatic-stress disorder, grief and loss, relational issues, chronic illness, intimacy/sexual issues, and substance abuse, as well as supporting couples and families where there is a presence or history of addiction. 

Sara utilizes a person centered approach to help facilitate growth and healing, and believes counseling is an individualized process. She approaches each client with an understanding of their unique challenges and set of circumstances, and uses collaboration with her clients to build a strong therapeutic alliance. Sara emphasizes authenticity, empathy and a positive therapeutic style in her practices, and believes that a safe and supportive environment for therapy is key to successful change. 

Sara is passionate about helping individuals become better versions of themselves by learning coping skills, examining their past, and looking into the future. She utilizes several therapeutic orientations in her sessions, including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Techniques, Internal Family Systems Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
