Karla Boertzel, MA, LAC

Karla Boertzel is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey. She earned her MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University's School of Medicine, a CACREP-accredited program. She received her BA in Spanish from Davidson College. Karla is a member of the American Counseling Association.

Karla believes that we carry with us a set of experiences that oftentimes negatively influence the way we think, feel, and perceive ourselves and the world. Her approach is to help clients process the events that have held them back from fully living and to develop a more positive worldview. She is motivated by the science of brain development, which tells us that it is never too late to learn new skills or mindsets. In fact, science tells us that a supportive relationship, predictability, vulnerability, and language have the potential to unlock one's journey towards more meaningful self-discovery.

Karla has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in both outpatient and partial hospitalization settings. She has experience conducting individual therapy and group counseling for clients who have experienced trauma, obsessions/compulsions, anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, eating disorders, and personality disorders. Karla incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities into her work with clients, including Action and Commitment and Cognitive Behavioral therapies.
